○ | ○ | Article | Study of electromagnetic decays of orbitally excited Ξc baryons | Using 980 fb(-1) of data collected with the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+) e(-) collider, we report a study of the electromagnetic decays of excited charmed baryons Xi(c)(2790) and Xi(c)(2815). A clear signal (8.6 standard deviations) is observed for Xi(c)(2815)(0) -> Xi(0)(c)gamma, and we measure: B[Xi(c)(2815)(0) -> Xi(0)(c)gamma]/B[Xi(c)(2815)(0) -> Xi(c)(2645)(+)pi(-) -> Xi(0)(c)pi(+)pi(-)] = - 0.41 +/- 0.05 +/- 0.03. We also present evidence (3.8 standard deviations) for the similar decay of the Xi(c)(2790)(0) and measure:B[Xi(c)(2790)(0) -> Xi(0)(c)gamma]/B[Xi(c)(2790)(0) -> Xi(c)'(+)pi(-) -> Xi(+)(c)gamma pi(-)] = 0.13 +/- 0.03 +/- 0.02. The first quoted uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. We find no hint of the analogous decays of the Xi(c)(2815)(+) and Xi(c)(2790)(+) baryons and set upper limits at the 90% confidence level of: B[Xi(c)(2815)(0) -> Xi(0)(c)gamma]/B[Xi(c)(2815)(0) -> Xi(c)(2645)(0)pi(+) -> Xi(+)(c)pi(-)pi(+)] Xi(0)(c)gamma]/B[Xi(c)(2815)(+) -> Xi(c)'(0)pi(+) -> Xi(0)(c)gamma pi(+)] < 0.06. ○ | ○ | Article | Supersymmetric clockwork axion model and axino dark matter | Implications of supersymmetrizing the clockwork axions are studied. Supersymmetry ensures that the saxions and axinos have the same pattern of the coupling hierarchy as the clockwork axions. If we assume supersymmetry breaking is universal over the clockwork sites, the coupling structure is preserved, while the mass orderings of the saxions and axinos can differ depending on the supersymmetry breaking scale. While the massive saxions and axions quickly decay, the lightest axino can be stable and, thus, a dark matter candidate. The relic abundance of the axino dark matter from thermal production is mostly determined by decays of the heavier axinos in the normal mass ordering. This exponentially enhances the thermal yield compared to the conventional axino scenarios. ○ | ○ | Article | Update of inclusive cross sections of single and pairs of identified light charged hadrons | We report new measurements of the production cross sections of pairs of charged pions and kaons as a function of their fractional energies using various fractional-energy definitions. Two different fractional-energy definitions were used and compared to the conventional fractional-energy definition reported previously. The new variables aim at either identifying dihadron cross sections in terms of single-hadron fragmentation functions, or to provide a means of characterizing the transverse momentum created in the fragmentation process. The results were obtained applying the updated initial-state radiation correction used in other recent Belle publications on light-hadron production cross sections. In addition, production cross sections of single charged pions, kaons, and protons were also updated using this initial-state radiation correction. ○ | ○ | Article | W⁺ W⁻ boson pair production in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV | A measurement of the W+W- boson pair production cross section in proton-proton collisions at root s = 13 TeV is presented. The data used in this study are collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1). The W+W- candidate events are selected by requiring two oppositely charged leptons (electrons or muons). Two methods for reducing background contributions are employed. In the first one, a sequence of requirements on kinematic quantities is applied allowing a measurement of the total production cross section, 117.6 +/- 6.8 pb, which agrees well with the theoretical prediction. Fiducial cross sections are also reported for events with zero or one jet, and the change in the zero-jet fiducial cross section with the jet transverse momentum threshold is measured. Normalized differential cross sections are reported within the fiducial region. A second method for suppressing background contributions employs two random forest classifiers. The analysis based on this method includes a measurement of the total production cross section and also a measurement of the normalized jet multiplicity distribution in W+W- events. Finally, a dilepton invariant mass distribution is used to probe for physics beyond the standard model in the context of an effective field theory, and constraints on the presence of dimension-6 operators are derived. | Sirunyan, A. ○ | ○ | Article | An increased disease burden of autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic diseases in Korea | Objectives: To estimate the prevalence, medical utilization, and recent changes in the economic burden of autoimmune rheumatic diseases (AIRDs) in Korea. Methods: Using a nationwide claims database that includes all medical claims made by approximately 50 million Korean residents, the prevalences of seropositive rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis (AS), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and others between 2012 and 2016 were calculated. Changes in medical utilization and the direct medical costs of each AIRD from 2012 to 2016 were also evaluated. Results: Based on the data for 2016, seropositive RA was the most common AIRD in Korea with 96,330 cases (188.5/100,000 population), followed by AS (30,006, 58.7/100,000 population), SLE (19,441, 38.0/100,000 population), Beficers disease (BD, 14,943, 29.2/100,000 population), primary Sjogren syndrome (p55, 12,018, 23.5/100,000 population), and systemic sclerosis (SSc, 3606, 7.1/100,000 population). In terms of medical utilization, patients with eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis visited outpatient clinics the most frequently (9.8 times/year/patient), while hospitalization was most frequent in microscopic polyangiitis patients (1.0 time/year/patient). Total medical costs for all AIRDs increased from $154,348,011 in 2012 to $262,481,974 in 2016. The annual medical cost per patient in 2016 was the highest in microscopic polyangiitis ($6223/year), followed by psoriatic arthritis ($3,362/year), and granulomatosis with polyangiitis ($2823/year). Conclusions: In Korea, the most prevalent AIRD is seropositive RA, followed by AS, SLE, BD, p55, and SSc. The economic burden of AIRDs has risen substantially in the last 5 years due not only to an increase in their prevalence but also to an increase in medical costs per patient. ○ | ○ | Article | Early stage of liquid drop spreading on tunable nanostructured surfaces | In this study, the early stage of liquid droplet spreading on tunable nanostructures was investigated through high resolved and fast imaging visualization. It is well-known that the early stage of water droplet spreading on a solid surface features an inertia dominance on resistive droplet motion in a short period (similar to 0.01 sec). The spreading dynamic law of this stage differs greatly from those of the classical spreading stage, after the inertia regime, being determined by the balance between a spreading force and viscous friction. The effect of triple line physics associated with the surface properties is generally underestimated in the early inertial regime by a relatively short period and strong inertia momentum, and such physics result in the nature of the spreading (D t(1/2)). Here, we designed tunable nanostructures that can modify the nature law of the early droplet spreading. ○ | ○ | Article | A Chekanov-Eliashberg algebra for Legendrian graphs | We define a differential graded algebra for Legendrian graphs and tangles in the standard contact Euclidean three space. This invariant is defined combinatorially by using ideas from Legendrian contact homology. The construction is distinguished from other versions of Legendrian contact algebra by the vertices of Legendrian graphs. A set of countably many generators and a generalized notion of equivalence are introduced for invariance. We show a van Kampen type theorem for the differential graded algebras under the tangle replacement. ○ | ○ | Article | Cost-effectiveness of Bariatric Surgery for People with Morbid Obesity in South Korea | Objective This study aimed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of bariatric surgery (BS) compared to non-surgical treatment (NST) in Korean people with morbid obesity according to comorbidities and body mass index (BMI) severity. Methods The target cohort was people with morbid obesity, defined as BMI of >= 35 kg/m(2), or obese people with BMI of 30-34.9 kg/m(2) having obesity-related comorbidities. A decision-tree model for 1-year obesity treatment and Markov model for the rest of life were used. In the decision-tree model, the comorbidity remission rate and BMI change after 1-year treatment were decided based on a prospective clinical trial. In the Markov model, the transition probabilities were calculated considering the BMI level and age. The starting age of 20 years, a cycle length of 1 year, a time horizon of 80 years, and a 5% discount rate were applied for the base case from the healthcare system perspective. Results In the base case, BS improved quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) and was the cost-effective option in total cohort (incremental cost-effectiveness ratio of BS vs. NST was 674 USD/QALY). It was shown to be cost-effective in all subgroup analyses based on BMI level. In particular, BS was a dominant alternative for the subgroup with basal BMI of 35.0-37.4 kg/m(2). Various sensitivity analyses showed the robustness of results indicating the cost-effectiveness of BS. ○ | ○ | Article | Development and Operation of a Video Teleconsultation System Using Integrated Medical Equipment Gateway: a National Project for Workers in Underserved Areas | Worker health centers and health zones provide occupational healthcare services to workers in underserved areas of industrial health. Health zones cannot counsel workers on occupational disease prevention; worker health center personnel have to provide such services through in-person visits. Video teleconsultation can increase the accessibility of high-quality services to workers who visit health zones and improve professional personnel's efficiency. This study aimed to develop a system and an infrastructure that could facilitate video teleconsultation services between worker health centers and health zones, and analyze the services' operation status. A video teleconsultation process based on the role of local and remote institutions was designed. Based on the designed services, a web system supporting teleconsultation and an integrated gateway guaranteeing the interface with medical equipment in the web environment was developed. After analyzing the working environment, an infrastructure consisting of networks, video equipment, medical equipment, and servers necessary for teleconsultation was designed. Statistical results from the developed system and a satisfaction survey conducted by the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency were used to analyze the video teleconsultation services' operation status. A system, gateway, and hardware infrastructure within 21 worker health centers and 21 health zones has been operating this service since January 1, 2018. Over two years, the total number of teleconsultation service users was 4979, and the total number of questionnaire respondents was 1270. The total number of service activities was 6388 and total satisfaction was rated as 4.58 (+/- 0.59) out of 5. In this study, video teleconsultation services were evaluated as being very satisfactory. ○ | Article | Sex Differences in Long-Term Clinical Outcomes in Patients Hospitalized for Acute Heart Failure: A Report from the Korean Heart Failure Registry | Background: Although a better survival rate in women than in men has been reported in heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), the sex-specific prognosis has scarcely been addressed in HF with preserved EF (HFpEF). Thus, this study investigated the sex difference in clinical outcomes in patients with HFpEF, as well as in those with HFrEF. Materials and Methods: We studied clinical outcomes of 2,572 hospitalized patients due to HF (66.8 +/- 14.4 years, 49.7% women) in the Korean Heart Failure Registry. Patients were divided into two groups by left ventricular EF (LVEF): HFpEF (LVEF >= 50%, n = 764) and HFrEF (LVEF 0.05 for each). In 1:1 age-matched population (n = 1,005 in each sex), the long-term mortality was significantly lower in women than men in HFrEF group (p = 0.005), but not in HFpEF group (p = 0.786), while the incidences of composite events were similar between sex irrespective of LVEF (p > 0.05). However, there were no significant associations between sex and clinical outcomes in multivariable analysis (p > 0.05 for each).
