○ | ○ | Article | Development of a Subpath Extrusion Tip and Die for Peripheral Inserted Central Catheter Shaft with Multi Lumen | The tip and die for manufacturing multi-lumen catheter tubes should be designed considering the flow velocity of the molten polymer and the deformation of the final extruded tube. In this study, to manufacture non-circular double-lumen tubes for peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs), three types of tip and die structures are proposed. The velocity field and swelling effect when the circular tip and die (CTD) are applied, which is the commonly used tip and die structure, are analyzed through numerical calculation. To resolve the wall and rib thickness and ovality issues, the ellipse tip and die (ETD) and sub-path tip and die (STD) were proposed. In addition, based on the results of numerical analysis, the tip and die structures were manufactured and used to perform extrusion. Finally, we manufactured tubes that satisfied the target diameter, ovality, wall, and rib thickness using the newly proposed STD. | Lee, Han Chang; Jeong, Jinhyuk; Jo, Seunggi; Choi, Dong Yun; Kim, Gyu Man; Kim, Woojin | Korea Inst Ind Technol, Safety Syst R&D Grp, 320 Techno Sunhwan Ro, Dalseong Gun 711880, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Mech Engn, 1370 Sangyuk Dong, Daegu 702701, South Korea; Kumoh Natl Inst Technol, Dept Mech Syst Engn, Gumi 39177, South Korea | Choi, Dong Yun/HRD-1551-2023 | 57223207961; 57223187947; 57218193999; 55566743200; 55664733000; 57210398468 | hanchang0517@kitech.re.kr;jinhyuk@vasflex.com;tmdrl0723@gmail.com;dychoi377@kitech.re.kr;gyuman.kim@knu.ac.kr;woojinkim@kitech.re.kr; | POLYMERS | POLYMERS-BASEL | 2073-4360 | 13 | 8 | SCIE | POLYMER SCIENCE | 2021 | 4.967 | 17.2 | 0.38 | 2025-07-30 | 7 | 7 | peripherally inserted central venous catheter; multi lumen; polymer extrusion; polymer flow; numerical analysis; viscosity | DESIGN; SWELL; POLYPROPYLENE | Multi lumen; Numerical analysis; Peripherally inserted central venous catheter; Polymer extrusion; Polymer flow; Viscosity | Dies; Extrusion; Extrusion dies; Flow velocity; Velocity; Die structure; Extruded tubes; Molten polymers; Numerical calculation; Peripherally inserted central catheters; Swelling effect; Target diameters; Velocity field; Catheters | English | 2021 | 2021-04 | 10.3390/polym13081308 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기
○ | ○ | Article | Effect of Relative Humidity on the Electrospinning Performance of Regenerated Silk Solution | Recently, the electrospun silk web has been intensively studied in terms of its biomedical applications, including tissue engineering scaffolds, due to its good biocompatibility, cytocompatibility, and biodegradability. In this study, the effect of relative humidity (RH) conditions on the morphology of electrospun silk fiber and the electrospinning production rate of silk solution was examined. In addition, the effect of RH on the molecular conformation of electrospun silk web was examined using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. As RH was increased, the maximum electrospinning rate of silk solution and fiber diameter of the resultant electrospun silk web were decreased. When RH was increased to 60%, some beads were observed, which showed that the electrospinnability of silk formic acid solution deteriorated with an increase in RH. The FTIR results showed that electrospun silk web was partially beta-sheet crystallized and RH did not affect the molecular conformation of silk. | Park, Bo Kyung; Um, In Chul | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Biofibers & Biomat Sci, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 56883541200; 7006725707 | bkpark645@unm.edu;icum@knu.ac.kr; | POLYMERS | POLYMERS-BASEL | 2073-4360 | 13 | 15 | SCIE | POLYMER SCIENCE | 2021 | 4.967 | 17.2 | 0.9 | 2025-07-30 | 21 | 20 | silk; electrospinning; relative humidity; morphology; maximum electrospinning rate; molecular conformation | ELECTRO-SPINNING PERFORMANCE; BOMBYX-MORI SILK; STRUCTURAL CHARACTERISTICS; MOLECULAR-WEIGHT; MECHANICAL-PROPERTIES; FIBROIN NANOFIBERS; PORE FORMATION; IN-VITRO; MORPHOLOGY; SERICIN | Electrospinning; Maximum electrospinning rate; Molecular conformation; Morphology; Relative humidity; Silk | Biocompatibility; Biodegradability; Electrospinning; Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy; Medical applications; Scaffolds (biology); Acid solutions; Biomedical applications; Cytocompatibility; Electrospinnability; Fiber diameters; Molecular conformation; Production rates; Tissue engineering scaffold; Silk | English | 2021 | 2021-08 | 10.3390/polym13152479 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기
○ | ○ | Article | Effects of Fabrication Conditions on Structure and Properties of Mechanically Prepared Natural Silk Web and Non-Woven Fabrics | In this study, natural silk web and natural silk non-woven fabric were prepared mechanically using the binding character of the sericin in silk. The effect of process variables on the preparation, structure, and properties of the silk web and the non-woven fabric was examined. The reeling velocity affected the morphology and mechanical properties of the web but had almost no influence on the crystalline structure of the silk. From the viewpoint of reel-ability and the mechanical properties (work of rupture) of silk web, a reeling velocity of 39.2 m/min represented the optimal processing velocity. The porosity and swelling ratio of the silk web decreased slightly with increasing reeling velocity. Furthermore, the reeling bath temperature had a significant effect on the reel-ability of silk filaments from a silkworm cocoon. Bath temperatures >= 50 degrees C yielded good reel-ability (>900 m reeling length). The porosity, swelling ratio in water, and mechanical properties of the silk web and silk non-woven fabric changed only slightly with the reeling bath temperature but changed significantly with the hot press treatment. The hot-pressed silk web (i.e., silk non-woven fabric) exhibited higher tensile strength as well as lower elongation at break, porosity, and swelling ratio than the silk web. | Bae, Yeon-Su; Um, In-Chul | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Biofibers & Biomat Sci, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Inst Agr Sci & Technol, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 57195294951; 7006725707 | umic91@naver.com;icum@knu.ac.kr; | POLYMERS | POLYMERS-BASEL | 2073-4360 | 13 | 10 | SCIE | POLYMER SCIENCE | 2021 | 4.967 | 17.2 | 0.77 | 2025-07-30 | 14 | 14 | silk non-woven fabric; sericin; reeling; hot press | ELECTRO-SPINNING PERFORMANCE; MOLECULAR-WEIGHT; GELATION BEHAVIOR; FIBROIN NANOFIBER; HIGH-POROSITY; SERICIN; SCAFFOLDS; GROWTH; CELLS; BIOCOMPATIBILITY | Hot press; Reeling; Sericin; Silk non-woven fabric | Porosity; Silk; Tensile strength; Velocity; Weaving; Bath temperatures; Condition; Hot press; Natural silk; Non-woven fabric; Porosity ratio; Sericin; Silk non-woven fabric; Structures and properties; Swelling ratio; Presses (machine tools) | English | 2021 | 2021-05 | 10.3390/polym13101578 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기
○ | ○ | Article | Implementation framework of the UIUC aggregate base rutting model | This paper presents findings from a research study focused on calibrating and improving the robustness of a permanent deformation model for unbound aggregate base/subbase materials, recently developed at the University of Illinois and referred to as the UIUC rutting model. The model provides estimates for permanent strains as a function of load cycles, applied deviator stress, and the ratio of mobilized shear stress to strength. Sixteen aggregate materials were tested for permanent deformation both at their source gradations, and an engineered gradation. Based on multiple linear regression analyses, the UIUC rutting model parameters were determined to estimate the laboratory-measured permanent strains with high accuracy. Constrained and stepwise regression statistical approaches were employed to reduce variability in the regression model parameters and express the model parameters as function of material properties such as shear strength, morphological shape properties, gradation, and compaction characteristics. Results from stepwise analyses indicated that the most accurate predictions could be achieved by considering particle shape properties. Finally, a framework was established to predict unbound aggregate permanent deformation trends of flexible pavement base/subbase layers using the UIUC model parameter equations obtained from stepwise regression, along with the physical/mechanical properties of the aggregate materials determined from standard laboratory tests. | Qamhia, Issam I. ○ | ○ | Article | In-Situ Iodine Doping Characteristics of Conductive Polyaniline Film Polymerized by Low-Voltage-Driven Atmospheric Pressure Plasma | In-situ iodine (I-2)-doped atmospheric pressure (AP) plasma polymerization is proposed, based on a newly designed AP plasma reactor with a single wire electrode that enables low-voltage-driven plasma polymerization. The proposed AP plasma reactor can proceed plasma polymerization at low voltage levels, thereby enabling an effective in-situ I-2 doping process by maintaining a stable glow discharge state even if the applied voltage increases due to the use of a discharge gas containing a large amount of monomer vapors and doping materials. The results of field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) show that the polyaniline (PANI) films are successfully deposited on the silicon (Si) substrates, and that the crosslinking pattern of the synthesized nanoparticles is predominantly vertically aligned. In addition, the in-situ I-2-doped PANI film fabricated by the proposed AP plasma reactor exhibits excellent electrical resistance without electrical aging behavior. The developed AP plasma reactor proposed in this study is more advantageous for the polymerization and in-situ I-2 doping of conductive polymer films than the existing AP plasma reactor with a dielectric barrier. | Kim, Jae Yong; Iqbal, Shahzad; Jang, Hyo Jun; Jung, Eun Young; Bae, Gyu Tae; Park, Choon-Sang; Tae, Heung-Sik | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll IT Engn, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kansas State Univ, Coll Engn, Dept Elect & Comp Engn, Manhattan, KS 66506 USA; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll IT Engn, Sch Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea | 57205191453; 57221800137; 57207956623; 57203199724; 57202369078; 16025295400; 7006298844 | jyk@knu.ac.kr;shahzadiqbal@knu.ac.kr;bs00201@knu.ac.kr;eyjung@knu.ac.kr;doctor047@knu.ac.kr;purplepcs@ksu.edu;hstae@ee.knu.ac.kr; | POLYMERS | POLYMERS-BASEL | 2073-4360 | 13 | 3 | SCIE | POLYMER SCIENCE | 2021 | 4.967 | 17.2 | 1.09 | 2025-07-30 | 18 | 19 | polyaniline (PANI); conductive polymer; plasma polymerization; aniline; atmospheric pressure plasma reactor (AP plasma reactor); in-situ iodine (I-2) doping | Aniline; Atmospheric pressure plasma reactor (AP plasma reactor); Conductive polymer; In-situ iodine (I2 ) doping; Plasma polymerization; Polyaniline (PANI) | Atmospheric pressure; Dielectric materials; Enamels; Field emission microscopes; Fourier transforms; Glow discharges; Infrared spectroscopy; Iodine; Plasma applications; Polyaniline; Polymer films; Scanning electron microscopy; Semiconductor doping; Synthesis (chemical); Atmospheric pressure plasmas; Conductive polyaniline; Conductive polymer films; Dielectric barrier; Electrical resistances; Field emission scanning electron microscopy; Fourier transformations; Silicon substrates; Plasma polymerization | English | 2021 | 2021-02 | 10.3390/polym13030418 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기
○ | ○ | Article | Inspecting Method for Defective Casting Products with Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) | It is essential to conduct the quality control for gauranteeing sound products after finishing conventional manufacturing processes. Vision-based inpection system has been extensively applied to various industries linked with concept of the smart factory since it does not only enhance the inspecting accuracy, but also decrease the cost for the human inspection, substantially. This paper mainly concerns the development of the inspecting system for the casting products with supported by the convolutional neural network, which makes it possible to detect various types of defects such as blow hole, chipping, crack, and wash automatically. To obtain high accuracy in inspecting system, it does not only require sub-partitioning of the original images, but also apply multiple labeling according to the order of the sub-images and the existence of the defects. Performance of the proposed inspecting algorithm has been validated with the 400 casting products, in which it exhibits substantially high accuracy more than 98%, experimentally. | Thong Phi Nguyen; Choi, Seungho; Park, Sung-Jun; Park, Sung Hyuk; Yoon, Jonghun | Hanyang Univ, Dept Mech Design Engn, 222 Wangsimni Ro, Seoul 04763, South Korea; Korea Natl Univ Transportat, Dept Mech Engn, 50 Daehak Ro, Chungju 27469, Chungcheongbuk, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Mat Sci & Engn, 80 Daehakro, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Hanyang Univ, Dept Mech Engn, 55 Hanyangdaehak Ro, Ansan 15588, Gyeonggi Do, South Korea | Nguyen, Thong/JHS-8911-2023; Park, Sung-Hyuk/AAE-6726-2022 | 57212284607; 58257849900; 57204467149; 54786002500; 56449838900 | yooncsmd@gmail.com; | INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF PRECISION ENGINEERING AND MANUFACTURING-GREEN TECHNOLOGY | INT J PR ENG MAN-GT | 2288-6206 | 2198-0810 | 8 | 2 | SCIE | ENGINEERING, MANUFACTURING;ENGINEERING, MECHANICAL;GREEN & SUSTAINABLE SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY | 2021 | 4.66 | 17.2 | 3.64 | 2025-07-30 | 52 | 68 | Convolution neural network; Defect inspection; Casting product; Deep learning | SYSTEM | Casting product; Convolution neural network; Deep learning; Defect inspection | Convolution; Deep learning; Deep neural networks; Defects; Inspection; Conventional manufacturing; Convolution neural network; Defect inspection; High-accuracy; Inspecting system; Original images; Subimages; Vision based; Convolutional neural networks | English | 2021 | 2021-03 | 10.1007/s40684-020-00197-4 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기
○ | ○ | Article | Modified Molecular Chain Displacement Analysis Employing Electro-Mechanical Threshold Energy Condition for Direct Current Breakdown of Low-Density Polyethylene | In an HVDC environment, space charge accumulated in polymeric insulators causes severe electric field distortion and degradation of breakdown strength. To analyze the breakdown characteristics, here, the space charge distribution was numerically evaluated using the bipolar charge transport (BCT) model, considering the temperature gradient inside the polymeric insulator. In particular, we proposed an electro-mechanical threshold energy condition, resulting in the modified molecular chain displacement model. The temperature gradient accelerates to reduce the breakdown strength with the polarity-reversal voltage, except during the harshest condition, when the temperature of the entire polymeric insulator was 70 degrees C. The energy imbalance inside the insulator caused by polarity-reversal voltage reduced the breakdown strength by 82%. Finally, this numerical analysis model can be used universally to predict the breakdown strength of polymeric insulators in various environments, and help in evaluating the electrical performance of polymeric insulators. | Kim, Minhee; Lee, Se-Hee | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Kim, Minhee/LRT-2058-2024 | 57214228950; 55009905600 | mylily4530@gmail.com;shlees@knu.ac.kr; | POLYMERS | POLYMERS-BASEL | 2073-4360 | 13 | 16 | SCIE | POLYMER SCIENCE | 2021 | 4.967 | 17.2 | 0.19 | 2025-07-30 | 1 | 3 | bipolar charge transport; breakdown; molecular chain displacement; space charge; threshold energy | SPACE-CHARGE ACCUMULATION; HVDC CABLE DESIGN; TEMPERATURE-GRADIENT; VOLTAGE REVERSAL; ELECTRIC-FIELD; LDPE FILMS; INSULATION; POLYPROPYLENE; XLPE | Bipolar charge transport; Breakdown; Molecular chain displacement; Space charge; Threshold energy | Electric fields; Thermal gradients; Breakdown characteristics; Breakdown strengths; Displacement analysis; Electric field distortions; Electrical performance; Electro-mechanical; Numerical analysis models; Polymeric insulators; Polymers | English | 2021 | 2021-08 | 10.3390/polym13162746 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기
○ | ○ | Article | Orientational Fluctuations and Bimodality in Semiflexible Nunchucks | Semiflexible nunchucks are block copolymers consisting of two long blocks with high bending rigidity jointed by a short block of lower bending stiffness. Recently, the DNA nanotube nunchuck was introduced as a simple nanoinstrument that mechanically magnifies the bending angle of short double-stranded (ds) DNA and allows its measurement in a straightforward way [Fygenson et al., Nano Lett. 2020, 20, 2, 1388-1395]. It comprises two long DNA nanotubes linked by a dsDNA segment, which acts as a hinge. The semiflexible nunchuck geometry also appears in dsDNA with a hinge defect (e.g., a quenched denaturation bubble or a nick), and in end-linked stiff filaments. In this article, we theoretically investigate various aspects of the conformations and the tensile elasticity of semiflexible nunchucks. We analytically calculate the distribution of bending fluctuations of a wormlike chain (WLC) consisting of three blocks with different bending stiffness. For a system of two weakly bending WLCs end-jointed by a rigid kink, with one end grafted, we calculate the distribution of positional fluctuations of the free end. For a system of two weakly bending WLCs end-jointed by a hinge modeled as harmonic bending spring, with one end grafted, we calculate the positional fluctuations of the free end. We show that, under certain conditions, there is a pronounced bimodality in the transverse fluctuations of the free end. For a semiflexible nunchuck under tension, under certain conditions, there is bimodality in the extension as a function of the hinge position. We also show how steric repulsion affects the bending fluctuations of a rigid-rod nunchuck. | Benetatos, Panayotis; Razbin, Mohammadhosein | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Phys, 80 Daehakro, Bukgu 41566, Daegu, South Korea; Amirkabir Univ Technol, Dept Energy Engn & Phys, Tehran 14588, Iran | Razbin, Dr. rer. nat. ○ | ○ | Article | Quality Characteristics and Antioxidant Potential of Lemon (Citrus limon Burm. f.) Seed Oil Extracted by Different Methods | Lemon (Citrus limon Burm. f.) is one of the most widely produced and consumed fruits in the world. The seeds of lemon are generally discarded as waste. The purpose of this study was to investigate the quality characteristics and antioxidant potential of lemon seed oil obtained by four extraction methods (roasted-pressing at 170 degrees C, RP-170; roasted-pressing at 100 degrees C, RP-100; cold-pressing, CP; and supercritical fluid, SF). No significant differences in the viscosity, density, and refractive index were observed in the oil obtained from different methods. In the case of Hunter's value, L (lightness) and b (yellowness) values of SF were higher than those of the others. The oil obtained by the CP method exhibited higher levels of Ca (252.17 mg/kg), Cu (2.38 mg/kg), K (225.98 mg/kg), and Mo (0.47 mg/kg) than that of other methods. The highest contents of total phenols (165.90 mg/mL) and flavonoids (21.69 mg/mL) were significantly high in oil obtained by the SF method. Oleic and linoleic acids consisted of principal fatty acids, which were significantly higher in oil obtained by RP-170. Higher amounts of volatile flavor compounds, such as gamma-terpinene, sabinene, and limonene, were observed in CP compared to those observed for the other methods. This study elucidates the effects of different methods of oil extraction on the composition of lemon seed oil and highlights potential applications of these benefits in the food, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and/or fragrance industries. | Park, Yong-Sung; Kim, Il-doo; Dhungana, Sanjeev Kumar; Park, Eun-Jung; Park, Jae-Jung; Kim, Jeong-Ho; Shin, Dong-Hyun | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Appl Biosci, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Int Studies, Int Inst Agr Res & Dev, Daegu, South Korea; Rural Dev Adm, Natl Inst Crop Sci, Miryang, South Korea; Konkuk Univ, Dept Green Technol Convergence, Chungiu Si, South Korea | Dhungana, Sanjeev Kumar/O-4097-2017; Park, Eun/W-1340-2019; Dhungana, Sanjeev/O-4097-2017; Kim, Jeong-Ho/A-7641-2018; Kim, Il-Doo/C-1850-2011 | 57195726535; 56269995600; 56269940800; 57225171664; 57270057100; 57221537227; 7403352903 | dhshin@knu.ac.kr; | FRONTIERS IN NUTRITION | FRONT NUTR | 2296-861X | 8 | SCIE | NUTRITION & DIETETICS | 2021 | 6.59 | 17.2 | 1.09 | 2025-07-30 | 15 | 16 | antioxidant; free radical scavenger; nutrition; nutraceutical; lemon seed oil | VOLATILE COMPOUNDS; FLAVONOIDS; BIODIESEL; PEEL; EMISSION; PATTERNS; THERAPY; LISBON; FRUITS; ACID | antioxidant; free radical scavenger; lemon seed oil; nutraceutical; nutrition | English | 2021 | 2021-09-09 | 10.3389/fnut.2021.644406 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기
○ | ○ | Review | Recent Studies on Dispersion of Graphene-Polymer Composites | Graphene is an excellent 2D material that has extraordinary properties such as high surface area, electron mobility, conductivity, and high light transmission. Polymer composites are used in many applications in place of polymers. In recent years, the development of stable graphene dispersions with high graphene concentrations has attracted great attention due to their applications in energy, bio-fields, and so forth. Thus, this review essentially discusses the preparation of stable graphene-polymer composites/dispersions. Discussion on existing methods of preparing graphene is included with their merits and demerits. Among existing methods, mechanical exfoliation is widely used for the preparation of stable graphene dispersion, the theoretical background of this method is discussed briefly. Solvents, surfactants, and polymers that are used for dispersing graphene and the factors to be considered while preparing stable graphene dispersions are discussed in detail. Further, the direct applications of stable graphene dispersions are discussed briefly. Finally, a summary and prospects for the development of stable graphene dispersions are proposed. | Perumal, Suguna; Atchudan, Raji; Cheong, In Woo | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Engn, Dept Appl Chem, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Yeungnam Univ, Sch Chem Engn, Gyongsan 38541, South Korea | perumal, suguna/N-9075-2017; RAJI, ATCHUDAN/C-9904-2017 | 56673798900; 26648054700; 7006733373 | suguna.perumal@gmail.com;atchudanr@yu.ac.kr;inwoo@knu.ac.kr; | POLYMERS | POLYMERS-BASEL | 2073-4360 | 13 | 14 | SCIE | POLYMER SCIENCE | 2021 | 4.967 | 17.2 | 2.88 | 2025-07-30 | 59 | 63 | graphene; graphene dispersion; solvents; surfactants; polymers; coating; 3D printing; supercapacitor device | ONE-STEP SYNTHESIS; MECHANICAL-PROPERTIES; ORGANIC-SOLVENTS; PRINTED GRAPHENE; BLOCK-COPOLYMERS; GREEN SYNTHESIS; GRAPHITE OXIDE; EXFOLIATION; NANOCOMPOSITES; SURFACTANT | 3D printing; Coating; Graphene; Graphene dispersion; Polymers; Solvents; Supercapacitor device; Surfactants | Composite materials; Dispersions; Light transmission; Polymers; Graphene dispersions; High surface area; Mechanical exfoliation; Polymer composite; Graphene | English | 2021 | 2021-07 | 10.3390/polym13142375 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기
○ | ○ | Article | Self-Cleaning Polyester Fabric Prepared with TiOF2 and Hexadecyltrimethoxysilane | In this study, self-cleaning polyester (PET) fabrics were prepared using TiOF2 and hexadecyltrimethoxysilane(HDS) treatment. TiOF2 was synthesized via direct fluorination of a precursor TiO2 at various reaction temperatures. The prepared PET fabrics had superior photocatalytic self-cleaning properties compared with anatase TiO2/HDS-treated PET fabrics under UV and sunlight with 98% decomposition of methylene blue. TiOF2/HDS-treated PET fabrics also had superior superhydrophobic self-cleaning properties compared with anatase TiO2/HDS-treated PET fabrics with a 161 degrees water contact angle and 6 degrees roll-off angle. After the self-cleaning tests of the non-dyed TiOF2/HDS-treated PET fabrics, we prepared dyed TiOF2/HDS-treated PET fabrics to test practical aspects of the treatment method. These PET fabrics were barely stained by tomato ketchup; even when stained, they could be self-cleaned within 4 h. These results suggest that practical self-cleaning PET fabrics with superhydrophobicity and photocatalytic degradation could be prepared using TiOF2/HDS-treatment. | Jeong, Euigyung; Woo, Heeju; Moon, Yejin'; Lee, Dong Yun; Jung, Minjung; Lee, Young-Seak; Bae, Jin-Seok | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Text Syst Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Polymer Sci & Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Chungnam Natl Univ, Dept Chem Engn & Appl Chem, Daejeon 34134, South Korea | Lee, Sang/R-2856-2019 | 35885596300; 57201401734; 57201658119; 57211001605; 36005396400; 36012755200; 8857273700 | wolfpack@knu.ac.kr;whj4533@naver.com;myjibsm@naver.com;dongyunlee@knu.ac.kr;hiddomi00@naver.com;yslee@cnu.ac.kr;jbae@knu.ac.kr; | POLYMERS | POLYMERS-BASEL | 2073-4360 | 13 | 3 | SCIE | POLYMER SCIENCE | 2021 | 4.967 | 17.2 | 0.9 | 2025-07-30 | 11 | 14 | TiOF2; self-cleaning fabrics; organic silane; photocatalyst; superhydrophobicity | PHOTOCATALYTIC ACTIVITY; COTTON TEXTILES; SURFACE; MULTILAYERS; DEPOSITION; ARRAYS; FILMS | Organic silane; Photocatalyst; Self-cleaning fabrics; Superhydrophobicity; TiOF2 | Contact angle; Oxide minerals; Photocatalytic activity; Polyesters; Superhydrophobicity; Titanium dioxide; Direct fluorination; Photo catalytic degradation; Polyester fabric; Polyesters (PET); Reaction temperature; Self-cleaning properties; Treatment methods; Water contact angle; Cleaning | English | 2021 | 2021-02 | 10.3390/polym13030387 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기
○ | ○ | Review | Surface Modified Nanocellulose and Its Reinforcement in Natural Rubber Matrix Nanocomposites: A Review | Natural rubber is of significant economic importance owing to its excellent resilience, elasticity, abrasion and impact resistance. Despite that, natural rubber has been identified with some drawbacks such as low modulus and strength and therefore opens up the opportunity for adding a reinforcing agent. Apart from the conventional fillers such as silica, carbon black and lignocellulosic fibers, nanocellulose is also one of the ideal candidates. Nanocellulose is a promising filler with many excellent properties such as renewability, biocompatibility, non-toxicity, reactive surface, low density, high specific surface area, high tensile and elastic modulus. However, it has some limitations in hydrophobicity, solubility and compatibility and therefore it is very difficult to achieve good dispersion and interfacial properties with the natural rubber matrix. Surface modification is often carried out to enhance the interfacial compatibilities between nanocellulose and natural rubber and to alleviate difficulties in dispersing them in polar solvents or polymers. This paper aims to highlight the different surface modification methods employed by several researchers in modifying nanocellulose and its reinforcement effects in the natural rubber matrix. The mechanism of the different surface medication methods has been discussed. The review also lists out the conventional filler that had been used as reinforcing agent for natural rubber. The challenges and future prospective has also been concluded in the last part of this review. | Hakimi, Nik Muhammad Faris; Lee, Seng Hua; Lum, Wei Chen; Mohamad, Siti Fatahiyah; Al Edrus, Syeed SaifulAzry Osman; Park, Byung-Dae; Azmi, Anis | Univ Putra Malaysia, Inst Trop Forestry & Forest Prod, Serdang 43400, Malaysia; Univ Teknol MARA, Inst Infrastruct Engn & Sustainable Management II, Shah Alam 40450, Malaysia; Agensi Nuklear Malaysia, Radiat Proc & Technol Div, Kajang 43000, Malaysia; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Dept Wood & Paper Sci, Daegu 41566, South Korea | Mohamad, Siti/AAW-2789-2020; , Lum Wei Chen/GLS-0230-2022; Lum, Wei Chen/GLS-0230-2022; Park, Byung-Dae/ABB-1934-2020; Lee, Seng Hua/V-1016-2019 | 57272556200; 57191711306; 54407236700; 55773401200; 57223314346; 7402834820; 57201213469 | nikfaris16.95@gmail.com;lee_seng@upm.edu.my;lumweichen@outlook.com;fatahiyah@nuclearmalaysia.gov.my;saifulazry@upm.edu.my;byungdae@knu.ac.kr;anisazmi8855@gmail.com; | POLYMERS | POLYMERS-BASEL | 2073-4360 | 13 | 19 | SCIE | POLYMER SCIENCE | 2021 | 4.967 | 17.2 | 0.62 | 2025-07-30 | 23 | 41 | nanomaterials; surface modification; latex; lignocellulosic fibers; conventional fillers | CELLULOSE NANOCRYSTALS; CARBON-BLACK; MECHANICAL-PROPERTIES; CROSS-LINKING; WOOD FLOUR; FILLER; COMPOSITES; SILICA; FUNCTIONALIZATION; VULCANIZATION | Conventional fillers; Latex; Lignocellulosic fibers; Nanomaterials; Surface modification | Carbon Black; Fillers; Natural Rubber; Reinforcement; Review; Silica; Specific Surface; Biocompatibility; Carbon black; Elastic moduli; Fillers; Nanocellulose; Reinforcement; Silica; Conventional filler; Economic importance; Lignocellulosic fibres; Low-modulus; Nano-cellulose; Natural rubber matrix; Property; Reinforcing agent; Surface-modification; Surface-modified; Rubber | English | 2021 | 2021-10 | 10.3390/polym13193241 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기
○ | ○ | Article | Ultrafast Room Temperature Synthesis of Porous Polythiophene via Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Polymerization Technique and Its Application to NO2 Gas Sensors | New nanostructured conducting porous polythiophene (PTh) films are directly deposited on substrates at room temperature (RT) by novel atmospheric pressure plasma jets (APPJs) polymerization technique. The proposed plasma polymerization synthesis technique can grow the PTh films with a very fast deposition rate of about 7.0 mu m center dot min(-1) by improving the sufficient nucleation and fragment of the thiophene monomer. This study also compares pure and iodine (I-2)-doped PTh films to demonstrate the effects of I-2 doping. To check the feasibility as a sensing material, NO2-sensing properties of the I-2-doped PTh films-based gas sensors are also investigated. As a result, the proposed APPJs device can produce the high density, porous and ultra-fast polymer films, and polymers-based gas sensors have high sensitivity to NO2 at RT. Our approach enabled a series of processes from synthesis of sensing materials to fabrication of gas sensors to be carried out simultaneously. | Park, Choon-Sang; Kim, Do Yeob; Jung, Eun Young; Jang, Hyo Jun; Bae, Gyu Tae; Kim, Jae Young; Shin, Bhum Jae; Lee, Hyung-Kun; Tae, Heung-Sik | Kansas State Univ, Coll Engn, Dept Elect & Comp Engn, New York, NY 66506 USA; Elect & Telecommun Res Inst, ICT Creat Res Lab, Daejeon 34129, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll IT Engn, Sch Elect & Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea; Sejong Univ, Dept Elect Engn, Seoul 05006, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Coll IT Engn, Sch Elect Engn, Daegu 41566, South Korea | ; Shin, BhumJae/AEV-2572-2022; Lee, Hyung-Kun/AAZ-2442-2021 | 16025295400; 19337736800; 57203199724; 57207956623; 57202369078; 57205191453; 7103027782; 55706818600; 7006298844 | purplepcs@ksu.edu;nanodykim@etri.re.kr;eyjung@knu.ac.kr;bs00201@knu.ac.kr;doctor047@knu.ac.kr;jyk@knu.ac.kr;hahusbj@sejong.ac.kr;hklee@etri.re.kr;hstae@ee.knu.ac.kr; | POLYMERS | POLYMERS-BASEL | 2073-4360 | 13 | 11 | SCIE | POLYMER SCIENCE | 2021 | 4.967 | 17.2 | 1.22 | 2025-07-30 | 22 | 24 | atmospheric pressure plasma; room temperature growth; plasma polymerization; porous polythiophene; conducting polymer; NO2; gas sensors | THIN-FILM; POLYANILINE; DEPOSITION; THIOPHENE; PERFORMANCE; COPOLYMER; IODINE; CARBON; OXIDE | Atmospheric pressure plasma; Conducting polymer; Gas sensors; NO2; Plasma polymerization; Po-rous polythiophene; Room temperature growth | Atmospheric pressure; Chemical sensors; Deposition rates; Gas detectors; Nitrogen oxides; Plasma jets; Plasma polymerization; Semiconductor doping; Thorium compounds; Atmospheric pressure plasma jets; Atmospheric pressure plasmas; High sensitivity; ITS applications; Room temperature synthesis; Sensing material; Synthesis techniques; Thiophene monomers; Polymer films | English | 2021 | 2021-06 | 10.3390/polym13111783 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기
○ | ○ | Article | Case report of compound CFTR variants in Korean siblings with cystic fibrosis: importance of differentiating cystic fibrosis from inflammatory bowel disease | The prevalence of cystic fibrosis (CF) is considerably lower in Asian populations compared with that of Caucasians. Cases of CF are typically due to mutations in the CF transmembrane conductance regulator gene with autosomal recessive inheritance. Here, we report two cases of newly diagnosed CF in Korea-a 13-year-old boy and his 5-year-old brother. The older brother was admitted to our hospital for evaluation and treatment of recurrent abdominal pain, frequent diarrhea, and failure to thrive. Fecal calprotectin (FC) was elevated, and when combining this with his clinical presentation, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EoGE) was the first impression of his disease. Several ulcerative lesions were observed on ileocolonoscopy. However, incidental findings of suspicious bronchiectatic lesions were observed on plain radiography, which were confirmed by chest computed tomography. Moreover, diffuse bowel wall thickening with pancreatic atrophy was also incidentally detected by computed tomography of the abdomen. Comprehensively, these findings were highly suggestive of CF. Therefore, diagnostic exome sequencing was conducted, which revealed compound heterozygous variants of c.263T>G (p.Leu88*) and c.2977G>T (p.Asp993Tyr) in the CF transmembrane conductance regulator gene. Although symptoms in the younger brother were not as prominent as the older brother, genetic test was also conducted, which revealed the same mutation. We report the identification of a novel variant, p.Asp993Tyr, in siblings with Korean heritage. Although CF is rare in Koreans, it should be included in the differential diagnosis of IBD. | Park, Hyejin; Kim, Jinwoo; Choi, Sujin; Suh, Hyo-Rim; Moon, Jung Eun; Kim, Dongsub; Choi, Bong Seok; Hwang, Su-Kyeong; Kang, Ben; Choe, Byung-Ho | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Paediat, Daegu 41944, South Korea | 康, 奔/JMQ-0812-2023; Choe, Byung-Ho/KSM-6251-2024 | 57355857100; 57188553095; 57223972405; 57203059359; 57205770947; 57205248455; 56547873100; 37761570400; 57194823199; 57574977300 | bhchoi@knu.ac.kr; | TRANSLATIONAL PEDIATRICS | TRANSL PEDIATR | 2224-4336 | 2224-4344 | 10 | 11 | SCIE | PEDIATRICS | 2021 | 4.047 | 17.3 | 0 | 2025-07-30 | 0 | 0 | Cystic fibrosis (CF); inflammatory bowel disease (IBD); diagnostic exome sequencing; CF transmembrane conductance regulator gene (CFTR gene); case report | FECAL CALPROTECTIN; CROHNS-DISEASE; CHILDREN | Case report; CF transmembrane conductance regulator gene (CFTR gene); Cystic fibrosis (CF); Diagnostic exome sequencing; Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) | 1,25 dihydroxyergocalciferol; alpha tocopherol; amylase; C reactive protein; calgranulin; copper; cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator; ferritin; growth hormone; medium chain triacylglycerol; pancreas enzyme; triacylglycerol lipase; trypsin; abdominal pain; adolescent; Article; atelectasis; atrophy; blood cell count; body weight gain; bone densitometry; bronchiectasis; Candida albicans; case report; cecum; child; chronic inflammation; clinical article; clinical feature; computer assisted tomography; cow milk; cystic fibrosis; diarrhea; differential diagnosis; digital clubbing; duodenum; endoscopic biopsy; enterocolitis; enzyme replacement; eosinophil count; eosinophilic gastroenteritis; eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorder; esophagogastroduodenoscopy; failure to thrive; feces analysis; gene mutation; genetic screening; genetic variability; histology; hospital admission; human; human tissue; hypoalbuminemia; hyponatremia; ileocolonoscopy; immunochemistry; incidental finding; inflammatory bowel disease; intussusception; Korean (people); laboratory test; liver function test; lung function test; magnetic resonance enterography; male; mineral deficiency; multiplex polymerase chain reaction; osteoporosis; pancreas calcification; pancreas disease; pancreas function test; patient history of surgery; pollen allergy; preschool child; short stature; sibling; sputum culture; Staphylococcus aureus; steatorrhea; supplementation; terminal ileum; thorax radiography; vitamin deficiency; whole exome sequencing | English | 2021 | 2021-11 | 10.21037/tp-21-274 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기
○ | ○ | Article | Case report of juvenile polyposis/hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia syndrome: first report in Korea with a novel mutation in the SMAD4 gene | Juvenile polyposis/hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (JPS/HHT) syndrome is a rare, autosomal dominant disorder caused by mutations in the SMAD4 gene, presenting with features of both juvenile polyposis syndrome (JPS) and HHT. Reports and studies of JPS/HHT syndrome are mostly from Western countries, while there are scarce reports from East Asian countries. We report a case of a Korean boy who had been previously diagnosed with JPS at 7 years and had first visited to our center at 15 years of age. Genetic studies of the patient and parents revealed a novel variant in the SMAD4 gene, SMAD4 c.1146₁₁₆₃dₑₗ; p.His382Vₐₗ₃₈₇dₑₗ (NM₀₀₅₃₅₉.₅), which had developed de novo. Numerous pedunculated and sessile polyps were observed throughout the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Mucocutaneous telangiectases were observed on the lips, tongue, and jejunum, and arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) were observed in both lungs. This is the first case report of JPS/HHT syndrome in Korea, with a novel deletion variant in the SMAD4 gene. Patients with JPS should undergo genetic evaluation of associated genes including SMAD4, and those with genetically confirmed SMAD4 variants should undergo further evaluation for coexisting asymptomatic AVMs in order to prevent life-threatening complications of thrombotic emboli and pulmonary hemorrhage. | Kang, Ben; Hwang, Su-Kyeong; Choi, Sujin; Kim, Eun Soo; Lee, Sang Yub; Ki, Chang-Seok; Cho, Eun-Hae; Lee, Ji-Hyuk; Choe, Byung-Ho | Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Pediat, 680 Gukchaebosang Ro, Daegu 41944, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Internal Med, Daegu, South Korea; Kyungpook Natl Univ, Sch Med, Dept Radiol, Daegu, South Korea; GC Genome, Yongin, South Korea; Chungbuk Natl Univ, Dept Pediat, Coll Med, 776 1Sunhwan Ro, Cheongju 28644, South Korea | ; 康, 奔/JMQ-0812-2023; Choe, Byung-Ho/KSM-6251-2024; Lee, Joo/C-3851-2013; Ki, Chang-Seok/G-7559-2014 | 57194823199; 37761570400; 57223972405; 57203086704; 56016177400; 56800160200; 58448605500; 36011672600; 57574977300 | jihugy@chungbuk.ac.kr;bhchoe@knu.ac.kr; | TRANSLATIONAL PEDIATRICS | TRANSL PEDIATR | 2224-4336 | 2224-4344 | 10 | 5 | SCIE | PEDIATRICS | 2021 | 4.047 | 17.3 | 0.78 | 2025-07-30 | 5 | 6 | Juvenile polyposis syndrome (JPS); hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT); SMAD4; arteriovenous malformation (AVM); child | POLYPOSIS | Arteriovenous malformation (AVM); Child; Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT); Juvenile polyposis syndrome (JPS); SMAD4 | ferritin; hemoglobin; iron; Smad4 protein; adolescent; arteriovenous malformation; Article; capsule endoscopy; case report; clinical article; colon polyp; digital clubbing; epistaxis; esophagogastroduodenoscopy; gene mutation; genetic analysis; hematocrit; hemoglobin blood level; histopathology; human; human tissue; ileocolonoscopy; iron binding capacity; iron blood level; juvenile polyp; juvenile polyposis; Korean (people); leukocyte count; magnetic resonance angiography; male; mosaicism; physical examination; platelet count; polypectomy; polyposis; rectum hemorrhage; Rendu Osler Weber disease; Sanger sequencing; telangiectasia; whole exome sequencing | English | 2021 | 2021-05 | 10.21037/tp-21-12 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 | 바로가기 |
